MEDICAL STAFF OFFICE OPERATIONS

Medical Staff Office (MSO) operations exist as an administrative support system to the Medical Staff of a healthcare organization. The increasing involvement and responsibilities of Medical Staff leaders in the decision-making and operations of the organization has significantly added to the activities of Medical Staff Office personnel. Likewise, the demand for adequate resources, productivity and efficiency within this service area has been heightened.
 
 Characteristically, the Medical Staff Office is responsible for Medical Staff Committee management; credentialing activities; maintaining a physician data base; minute taking; correspondence; scheduling and coordination; and numerous other management responsibilities associated with special projects. The role of these personnel as liaison between Administration and Medical Staff members, and in Medical Staff customer relations for the organization, is often under-acknowledged.
